Reading Journey from Heartache to Hope was like an afternoon connecting with someone on a heart level as they shared their life’s tragedies and victories and all the ways God has carried them through. God’s word was such a guiding factor for both Chris and Mary Alice and the many scriptures shared brought another depth to my time spent reading this book. I felt Chris’s love for his wife and the intensity of his determination to be a man of God and honor and care for her. He shares his dependence on God to see him through the pain and reward of care giving to the end. As Mary Alice’s story is introduced, I saw the same depth of character and dependence on God as she navigated her own personal pain, grief and loss. The incredible culmination of their meeting and courtship is truly encouraging and inspiring as prayers are answered and their many years of faithfulness to God is rewarded in a beautiful love for each other.

Reading this book is so uplifting, written by a friend of mine, Chris. Knowing Him for over 20 years, and his wife Lisa, a dear friend of mine. I never heard about his life growing up, but I know the love he had for Lisa. He is a very talented musician as you will read, I am proud to have been their friend! As we read Journey from Heartache to Hope we were so amazed to see how God worked through in both Chris and Mary Alice's previous life to bring hope and strengthen their faith during painful times. My husband and I recommend reading this book, Chris and Mary Alice have an amazing love for God and that brought the two of them together.

This book is a heartfelt story of two people’s lives. They grew up in two different worlds but both went through many trails and tribulations. Through it all, they each had strong faith in God and always kept prayer in their lives. They ultimately found each other and have renewed faith in their lives together. It is an inspirational book, that no matter what you are going through in life there is hope and there is strength in God’s love.

I could not put the book down and found so much hope in the story, instruction in the scriptural references, and inspiration in the perseverance. The honesty of Chris and Mary Alice was incredibly refreshing, encouraging, and inspirational. I hope you love this book as much as I did.

Reading “Journey From Heartache To Hope” was inspiring. It was amazing to see the way Chris truly clung on to God through his life. This is a beautiful memoir of two disciples of Jesus who walked through their own “tunnels of sorrow” with enduring faith and perseverance. It is written from a very personal and vulnerable space which makes it relatable to readers who find themselves in the deserts of grief and loss. Chris also offers advice to those in the church on how to support a brother or sister walking through extreme seasons of heartache. An easy read we can all learn and grow from.
